The Transport Systems Catapult (TSC) has launched a new initiative with The Bird Table, an organisation looking to encourage and develop women into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical roles (STEM). During the programme, female employees at the TSC will be given coaching and mentoring in order to help accelerate their careers in the industry.
The Bird Table Group Ltd was founded by Aly King-Smith who believes that diversity, and diverse thinking, drives innovation; and that by aiming for equality in the STEM sector, we in turn will attract more women. The TSC has initially selected eight women, who will meet regularly to encourage and support one another through various key moments within their lives and careers, with the help of coaches from The Bird Table.
TSC CEO Steve Yianni says: “The TSC Vision is to create an environment that will make the UK a world leader in transport systems innovation, and the excellent female scientists and engineers we have working with us at the TSC have a huge role to play in achieving this. The Bird Table initiative is a perfect fit for our values of care and collaboration and we are eager to see positive outcomes for those involved. I am sure many of them will go on to become important role models for the next generation of females considering or entering STEM careers”.
The Bird Table’s Aly King-Smith said: “The coaches at The Bird Table are excited to start working with some of the most talented female engineers and technologists working at The Transport Systems Catapult. Developing the skills and behaviours of high performance & leadership are so critical to the long-term success of these women – and therefore to the long term success of the UK’s transport innovation strategy.
The Bird Table Coaching Group is an innovative, powerful executive coaching environment that enables great thinking and accountability to thrive. The Transport Systems Catapult is now investing in the female talent pipeline, and that’s great news for everyone. With diversity comes innovation”.
