DfT Data Visualisation Demonstrator Partner Announced

The Transport Systems Catapult is pleased to announce ITO World Ltd have been selected as the winning applicant for the Open Call for the creation of a data visualisation demonstrator for the Department for Transport.  We received a high number of very strong applications and would like to thank all the businesses who applied for their time and effort.

The Transport Systems Catapult issued a call for a real-time data visualisation platform demonstrator (the Visualisation platform) in January, that operates at a national scale for internal use by the DfT.

The DfT wants to explore alternative ways to use existing sources of data to improve the communication of information about road investment, as well as creating a utility to help support decisions about the development of better data visualisation capability in DfT.

The call came on the back of the DfT’s first five-year Road Investment Strategy issued in March 2015. The strategy set out an ambitious £15 billion programme of investment. Within this programme, the visualisation of data is seen as increasingly important to understanding transport, making policy and investment decisions, and engaging with stakeholders.

Founded by two award-winning technology entrepreneurs, Peter Miller (a computer scientist and transport sector specialist) and Hal Bertram (a film visual effects expert), ITO currently provide high quality public transport data feeds in real-time – powering journey planners, navigation applications and other multi-modal mobility solutions relied on by millions of people each day. They also have a track record working with the world’s leading journey planner and navigation providers, transport operators and authorities, government agencies and consultancies.
