We are delighted to announce that Steve Berry OBE, Head – Local Roads, Light Rail and Cableways Branch at Department for Transport will be delivering the keynote speech at this event.

Key focus areas:

  • Reducing flooding and contaminants on the Highway through improved accuracy of data and increased decision support capabilities
  • Delivering efficiencies and cost savings for network maintainers and managers whilst delivering an improved service

At present, maintainers of the surface water drainage infrastructure face challenges around how it should best be maintained to protect citizens from the risks of flooding and environmental damage through pollution. This showcase will offer you the opportunity to fully understand the challenges and problems faced within this sector and see how, through Smart Clean we have revolutionised the approach to urban surface water management to increase the effectiveness of city maintenance practices, support new data-driven applications, increase efficiencies and reduce overall costs in a time of increasing urbanisation.

The Smart Clean project is a collaborative R&D project part funded by InnovateUK which has focussed on creating SmartWater, a system that delivers a step-change in the quality and quantity of data available from our urban water infrastructure. The information that the innovative SmartWater software can provide, truly transforms our understanding of the how best the network can be maintained, by providing accurate data, real time alerts, predictive data modelling and clear, user friendly visualisations.

This event is to showcaese this significant project to local Councils, Highway Authorities, funding partners, policy makers, and the many stakeholders who have been an integral part of the research. We aim to show you:

  • Project outcomes and predicted financial savings
  • The benefits of the SmartWater solution
  • Range of data we can collect and its applications
  • How it could affect the direction of future policy
