Transport Systems Catapult would like to invite you to our upcoming workshop on ‘Satellite Services for Integrated Port Logistics’ – an event, which will address the key issues in port/maritime logistics and identify how satellite applications can be an enabler of solutions.

Efficient and effective port logistics is essential for the UK economy to retain and improve its position as a competitive player in the international market. It is a key link between the UK and the rest of the world. In that respect, its role in national and regional development alongside the strategic importance of its support and optimisation cannot be overestimated.

However, there are numerous barriers, that could yet prevent End Users from utilising the full potential of port logistics and satisfy their needs.

The workshop aims to outline End Users’ needs and define the problem space in Integrated Port Logistics operations with the perspective of preparation for the Ports of the future. Then we will seek to identify and illustrate:

  • How satellite applications could be an enabler of solutions?
  • What has already been developed.
  • Challenges and opportunities, where existing projects can be applied or new projects can be developed.

The session will include speakers from The European Space Agency, University of Nottingham, Heriot-Watt University, Satellite Applications Catapult and Transport Systems Catapult. The conference will include delegates from different areas and segments of the port logistics industry including manufacturers, enablers, service providers, port/terminal operators and authorities.

The workshop will provide delegates with a rare insight into project opportunities and collaborative research areas that are being developed by ESA. It will allow engagement with SMEs, academic researchers and other key stakeholders. Finally, it will encourage cross-sector participation in satellite applications and services for Integrated Port Logistics where they do not already exist, enhance existing services and highlight areas for future commercial exploitation.
